Water Supply and Distribution
Diyokes Consultants Ltd (DCL) has been providing consultancy services and actively implementing water and environmental engine- ering projects in Nigeria since 1987. Water management in all its ramifications has been one of the major fields of our activity and we have gained considerable experience in the development of urban, small towns and rural water supply schemes.
Our experience encompasses the planning and design of new works, rehabilitation and upgrading of existing water supply systems, the supervision of construction and capacity building and training of clients staff. Some of our major municipal water supply projects include the detailed engineering design of upgrading of Enugu water supply distribution network estimated to cost over N3billion (2000); and the Greater Abakaliki Water supply scheme estimated to cost about N1 billion (2000-2001).
We have also designed and supervised the construction of several semi urban and rural groundwater based and surface water supply schemes all over Nigeria. Under the African Development Bank (ADB) rural infrastructures projects in the former Enugu State, we achieved within two years (1991-1993) 45 proven borehole water schemes complete with submersible pumps, power supply, 230cubic meters reinforced concrete ground level storage reservoirs and pipeline distribution systems in Enugu State, the construction of 45km of 450mm diameter ductile iron pipeline extensions with 70Nr 30m3 capacity concrete service reservoirs and stand posts in Abakaliki and environs. As well, we were project managers and supervised the construction of 263 borehole and dam based water supply projects in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo State of Nigeria (2005-2010) for the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Abuja. We also supervised service delivery improvem- ents in solid waste management in Enugu City, for Enugu State Government and Ado-Ekiti central market urban water Supply and sanitation project for Ekiti State Government both with the UK-DFID support and assistance (2003).
Most of our assignments have involved technical and economic feasibility studies, condition surveys and studies of existing systems, master plann- ing, preliminary and detailed design, the preparation of bidding and cont- ract documents, assistance with bidding, supervision of construction, staff training, design of institutional arrangements, and commissioning.
We have developed special computer models for the optimization of water distribution systems, for the sizing of structural elements and for the dynamic modeling of water transportation and distribution systems.
